About

History of the School

Our school was started in 1992 as a day care centre at Zimmerman estate in Nairobi. Due to demand for more space, more land was attained at Ruiru to enhance expansion. A marshy and impassable land was gradually developed to accommodate the school. In 1996 another branch started at Ruiru with only 30 day scholars who had transferred from Zimmerman.

Boarding section was opened in 1997 and the first batch of KCPE candidates sat the exam in 1999.

Wankan Academy comprises a mixed Day & Boarding primary school, a Girls’ only Boarding High school a P1 Teachers training colleg all located at Ruiru behind the Kenyatta University, Ruiru campus. It also emcompasses a Dy Primary School in Zimmerman, Nairobi.

Since inception, Wankan has continued to excel in both academics and the co-curricular activities. We have always achieved a mean grade of ‘A’ making us remain a top school inThika District. The school won the coveted presidential music award in 1997 and has twice produced Master and Miss Enviroment in theAfrican Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW) Kenya sponsored Environmental Awareness competition.

With the slogan ‘ONE CAN’from which the school’s name stem, we seek to identify every pupils potential and talents. Our policies, programmes and activities are fomulated in realization and recognition of individual gifts and talents. We strive to bring out the best of these for moral and academic excellence. Our classes are small with 25-30 pupils each.

We also train learners onresponsibility and leadership even as we encourage self-discipline. It is our belief taht once a learner is helped to stay focused, remain exemplarily self-disciplined, hardworking, active and research oriented , sky can be the only limit since One Can.
